Unknown Lover

October 13, 2011

Hold my hand and
Feel in that, everything
Touch my lips and
Hear me say quiet things
Sit with me in the darkness, alone
Let me tell you that
I think you have a beautiful soul

My hands are chained and
It keeps me from everything
The world that hates us
The madness of their rage
Hide with me in the darkness, alone
In every moment hidden
We only lived a moment ago

Enough

March 29, 2009

There are no limits
To what I can accept
There will not be enough
In any day, week, or year
To overwhelm or wear out
Or to shut out or hide from
Or to cause me to turn away
From you

When the gates open
And the flood comes rushing in
When all sentiment is poured out
And the good and the bad are known
Even with pain and discomfort
It will not be enough
To change my heart
Of which you hold a piece

The Goal

March 25, 2009

If I had one goal
One dream
One desire
To be held above
All others
It would be for you to know
Just how much I love you

Not because I have told you
Though I still hope I tell you enough
Not because I have written about it
Though I hope I am getting the point across
Not because of any one thing I’ve done
Though I do hope that my actions show it

I hope you will know this
Deep sense of being loved
Because eventually, over time,
You realize that all along
You have been loved more completely
Than you ever thought possible

Difficult

March 14, 2009

It’s difficult to say
Just what’s on my mind

And only say it once.

Two times won’t work either
For what I could say
A million times
And not quite be enough.

So in times of silence
Though it’s difficult to hear
Do listen to my heart
And find the words I’ve lost
In an effort not to overwhelm you
By saying what you already know.

Editing My Heart

March 3, 2009

It seems that I always have to keep
Editing my heart
A word here
A comma there
Removing all those exclamation points
And adding pause, and silence
Checking the verbs to make sure
They are directed in the best manner
Checking the nouns
To make sure I am not “verbing” anything
Out of order
Checking the proper nouns
To make sure everyone who deserves
To have a spot with their name on it
Gets fair recognition
And checking adverbs and adjectives
To make sure they describe fully
And do not contradict
The spirit that lives
Within these pages

Everyday, I edit my heart
And gently shape the story
That my soul insists on telling
Not to curb emotion
Not to steal passion
Not to extinguish the fire
But so that the story
That is told in the end
Will be the one that will
Say what must be said
But that will not hurt those
Whose hearts are destined to receive it

Empty Room

January 27, 2009

The walls don’t speak,
The windows sit still,
The floor doesn’t make music,
And the doors have little to do.

The room is empty.
The room is silent.
The room is waiting.

The sun shines in,
The clouds roll by,
The lock stays locked,
And the light stays off.

The room is empty.
The room is silent.
The room is waiting.

So unlock the lock,
And open the door,
Turn on the light,
And walk into the room,
While speaking your heart,
The song of sincerity,

The room is empty.
The room is silent.
The room is waiting

For you.

The Pause

January 25, 2009

Before the pause,
There are words and meaning
After the pause,
The message begins

While made of empty silence,
The pause holds meaning
A new beginning
A rest before the rest

Call this nothing
Call that everthing
But it won’t change
The significance it holds

The pause is here to remind us
That silence is golden
And words lose
Valuable meaning without it

The Same Page

January 6, 2009

You might think that we’re on the same page
But I doubt it.
You look at the page numbers
And assume that everything is okay.

Do the page numbers really mean anything?
Can you render an interpretation from a number?
If the story were told on paper, maybe,
But not when the story is told in the heart.

Do you want “us” to be on the same page?
Then tear the book into pieces
Rip the pages to shreads
And scatter them on the ground before us

Ignore the chapters
Ignore the page numbers
Ignore the paragraphs and sentences
But save the words

And when we have a heap of words and paper
Spread out in front of us, We can quietly dance
across the bed of mixed meaning,
And with any luck, for a brief moment,

we will be on the same page.

Tell Me With A Memory

January 1, 2009

What can’t be said,
What has no words to describe,
What can only be understood in a lifetime…

Don’t tell me with a story,
Don’t tell me with a song,
Don’t tell me in a dream
That never really happens.

Give me what matters,
Let me into your heart,
With treasures fit for the soul,
And truth fit for eternity.

Tell me with the pillar of knowledge,
With quiet moments, and the wisdom of days,
Tell me with meaning beyond sincerity,

Tell me with a memory.
